Annie Fforde
Annie Fforde is a practicing artist with over 20 years experience as a printmaker, tutoring print workshops and curating exhibitions in West Yorkshire and France running a contemporary print workshop in Ceret until the end of 2017.
One her recent series of etchings Fabric of Memory was inspired by her memory of woodland. The medium of etchings on copper plates for the series uses multilayering of colour and texture, resulting in a changing image over time. Memory is the medium of past experience just as the materials used to create an art work have their own innate history.
The creation of Fabric of Memory as an installation is not an exploration of the past but its experience.
‘Memory is not an instrument for exploring the past but its theatre.
It is the medium of past experience…Walter Benjamin
Using printed fabric links the two mediums and the suspended lightweight cloth results in the lightness and transparency of Memory.
Annie Fforde will be leading a free short workshop ‘Monotypes for Minitypes’ 12.00-14.00 on Saturday and Sunday in Sapgate Gardens.
Venue 18, Sapgate Gardens. BD13 3DY
