Carole Griffiths
I am a sculptor and art educator based in Yorkshire with over 30 years of professional practice. I hold a BA (Hons) in Sculpture from Wimbledon School of Art and an MA from Leeds Metropolitan University. My work has been exhibited widely across the UK, and I am an active member of the Yorkshire Sculptors Group. My practice explores object displacement and recontextualisation as a means of generating open dialogue. Drawing on autobiographical references to domestic environments, I create sculptural works that merge lived experience and everyday objects with material enquiry. Hybrid forms frequently emerge, with the body implied or partially present, suggesting both absence and embodiment. I work primarily with clay from direct modelling through to bronze casting alongside fabric, plaster, vintage furniture, wood, and textile-based processes. Found and time-worn materials are brought together to retain traces of memory, function, and transformation. Much of my work responds to personal narratives and female contexts, allowing place to shape both material decisions and formal outcomes.
