Ian Tothill

I spent much of my working life helping young children to develop their creativity and self expression. During lockdown 2020 I started my own art practice making collages for a zine devised by my daughter. I moved onto making cards, found an online worldwide collage community and have been cutting and pasting ever since. I love making with paper, always thrilled when the juxtaposition of different elements which shouldn’t fit together feels right.
My work ranges from fully abstract to imaginary scenes and anything in between. The source materials are anything that’s been discarded, billboards, scratchcards, recycled magazines and books, found photos plus some of my own painted papers.
