I am a painter, photographer. I originally trained as a musician. I have also have worked as a professional photographer. I have also been studying fine art and painting for the last 20 years. How do I create my work? A sense of a journey round the piece. It comes from the heart - I literally feel, almost taste, what I am doing whether that is a line, a colour, a texture or spaces in between. One piece often already leading to another. I approach art in the same way I approach music - it is about emotion. I took up photography in 1985 and this helped to develop my observations and reactions to whatever catches my eye. It has had a profound effect on my view of composition, balance, light and shade. The pull of painting and drawing has always been there - I want to get my hands in and physically handle the materials. The tactile experience of the materials informs my senses and sets in motion a process which pulls out of me what I am thinking and more likely perceiving.
