Maya Novak
Maja is a Yorkshire based Slovenian artist, working with clay, found objects and organic matter.
Inspired by land, soil, nature, forms, space and the human bodily experience, she is interested in the process of making as a way of being and letting the qualities of materials speak through the making, to guide the final results.
Using clay / body / form / vessel as a medium for philosophical enquiry into the nature of matter, she kneads and stretches materials to the limit, exposing questions of function, (dis)order, containing, grasping, expansion, contraction, emptiness, breathing and being human.
Her sculptures, often hybrid and ephemeral, re-grow and change with the space and time they sit in; they move, dance, break and grow/heal again, embodying the nature of our being and living.
