Melanie Wilkes

I am a practising sculptor working from my Studio base in Dewsbury. I am a member of the Yorkshire Sculptors Group and the Manchester Academy of Fine Artists.
Inspiration and themes explore the human condition. Often biographical in nature, my sculpture reflects what is happening in life at the time of making or in the past experience.
Materials and the process of making are both important to my working practice. I specialise in the carving of stone, working intuitively with this natural material using handheld tools. I enjoy combining stone with other materials, especially those I can manipulate with my hands.
