Mike Joyce
I trained as a geography teacher and developed a deep love of the English landscape. Field sketching was integral, often carried out in dreadful conditions. I completed an art course 30 years ago in drawing, watercolour, and oils. Unfortunately, promotion in my job meant there was little time to draw or paint. On retirement, I picked up a pencil and paintbrush and went out to capture the evocative Yorkshire landscape and changing coastline of Essex. I recently entered my watercolour paintings in a regional open art competition. I was thrilled to be successful in the Essex and Calderdale exhibitions last year.
